glad to be back home

We survived the family vacation. It was a bit of a whirlwind getting out of town, but once we left it was great. We left Ann Arbor with threatning storm clouds hovering over, and proceded to drive all the way to Columbus in the storm. Normally I love a good thunderstorm, you know, when I am in my own house. When I am driving in a minivan packed to the gills with my family and all of our vacation possessions, I get a little nervous. Regardless I lived to tell the tale and we arrived safely in Columbus.

Our week at the beach was great. We arrived at Ocean Isle around 4 in the afternoon. We spent all week swimming and sunning. Mark and Andrew made daily trips to go clamming, which produced not one but two dinners where we had steamed clams. They even met a local man who took them out on his boat to go "shrimpin". The picture of Andrew below was taken on our last night at the beach. He is flying a kite. A few minutes after this picture was taken, he accidentally let go of the string and the kite took off. It got caught on some shingles of the roof of the house two doors down. Pretty funny.

We arrived home last Wednesday and decompressed for a day. Then we packed up again and headed to Bruin Lake campground for a couple of nights with the Kopald family. We had fun despite the rain that we had most of the day Saturday.

Since we got home I have been hanging out with the kids, and attempting to keep them busy. Camp starts in about 10 days. Overall we have had a good summer.
