morgan spurlock is cool

For those people not into documentaries, the name Morgan Spurlock may not mean anything to you. He is the guy who subjected his body to a crazy experiment of eating only McDonald's food for an entire month. Being that he is a filmmaker, he filmed the entire experience and created the movie, Supersize Me. If you haven't seen it, run don't walk, and rent it from your local video store. It is awesome. With humor and wit and a scary dose of reality via a very sick liver, Spurlock shows how fast food makes a person sick. Literally. It should be required viewing for every American; especially every American between the ages of 6 and 18. It should be on TV annually kind of like how the Ten Commandments gets shown every spring. But of course in our corporate dominated society that will never happen. (FYI, shortly after Supersize Me won awards at the Sundance Film Festival, McDonald's quickly announced that they were fazing out their Supersize options...Coincidence?) Did I mention that it was nominated for an Academy Award?

He took the movie one step further by writing a book. Don't Eat This Book. Again, fantastic. This book is a companion piece to Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation and deserves to be on the best seller list.

Now Morgan has another new project. A new show on FX called 30 Days. The premise being that people step into one another's shoes for 30 days. The first episode was on Wednesday night, where Morgan and his fiance moved to Columbus, OH and lived working minimum wage jobs for 30 days. Now, as I have said before, I hate reality shows, but this is show is different. It is more "edutainment" than stupid "Date my dad" crap. The show was amazing, and folks should definitely check it out.

Morgan Spurlock. Awesome.
